How the Personal Money Planner works
The Personal Money Planner is designed to bring several basic areas of personal finance together in one place. Instead of looking at income, spending, savings, debt and net worth separately, the planner helps you see how these areas relate to one another.
Monthly cash flow
Monthly cash flow is the difference between the income you enter and the expenses you list. A positive amount means the listed income is greater than the listed expenses. A negative amount means the listed expenses exceed the listed income.
Emergency-fund planning
The emergency-fund section lets you select a planning target based on months of essential expenses. There is no single emergency-fund amount that is appropriate for everyone. Your employment, household responsibilities, insurance, debt, income stability and other circumstances can affect the amount that may be appropriate.
Net worth
Net worth is generally calculated by subtracting liabilities from assets. It is a snapshot of the values entered into the planner at a particular point in time. It does not by itself measure financial health or future financial security.
Your privacy
This version of the planner performs its calculations directly in your web browser. It does not require an account, bank connection, or financial login.
